UGC HL Platinum Season 18 Week 7

Intro

We reach the last leg of the season, but not for most. It’s recently been announced that Platinum will have a six team playoff bracket, meaning only three teams, one third of the division, will not qualify. With that chance, the hopes and dreams of quite a few players are revitalized, with many of them no doubt poring over MP and seeding to figure out the best way to get into playoffs and do well. Lakeside’s our map this week, one that’s seen a fair bit of hatred in the past before being slowly but surely accepted. While there may be pockets of hate here and there, Lakeside’s finally made it in as an acceptably staple map. For now.

UGC Gold Highlander Season 18

Week 6 Review and Week 7 Preview – koth_flankside

by VoxDei and whymeo

So, we’re not yet done with Payload this season, with pl_badwater_pro being the final stop in Week 8, but it does mark a point in the season where we can safely assume our 5-1 teams will be granted a playoff berth. Technically, there are some disastrous scenarios where one or more get snubbed, but we’ll have to take stock of that next week.

Week 5: A Trek to the Worst Lands

Week 5

So the sun sets on week 4 and we move on to the most brown map in a Valve game since dust2. In a week I considered nicknaming “Change Places” due to the sheer quantity of roster changes. We have a corporate takeover of flipper skippers, numerous players moving to greener pastures, and a few put out to pasture. These sudden, drastic roster changes have made this week far more exciting then it could have been and so Badlands week may be a strong one for spectators. Personally I’ve never been a fan of the map, but I’m in the minority (again) so I’ll stay away from railing against it.

Week 4 Top 16 Rankings

by whymeo

With esea matches cancelled for Thursday this week and a lot of forfeit wins coming through as low and mid-Open teams die, there’s a lot less to talk about this week than normal. Still, a couple of teams that I didn’t even have one the rankings have proved themselves to be much more capable than I thought and several teams have completely dropped out of the rankings. As a result, things have moved around quite a bit this week. Hopefully this time they prove a bit more accurate than in the past. Anyway, onto the rankings:

UGC Platinum HL Season 18 Week 5

Intro

The second half of the season is completed, and it seems that aside a team or two, most everyone is where they will belong for the rest of the season. Steel is over for now, with only the playoff teams looking forward to another round in the candidate for Most Controversial Map. But, if you thought the controversial maps were over with, you’ll have to wait at least one more week, as Swiftwater is no stranger to arguments and complains. But until a good enough PL map to become a staple is discovered, expect to see Swiftwater show up every now and then.

UGC Gold Highlander Season 18

Week 5 Review and Week 6 Preview – Where is the Water in Swiftwater?

by VoxDei and whymeo

cp_steel has closed its doors on the regular season for divisions below Platinum, but get to welcome it again later in the season. Will teams make the same mistakes as this past week?

Funny enough, only one Home team lost this week.

Week 4: My “Excuse” Week

Week 4: The sun rises on a new week

We take off our hats and press X to pay respects to two entities; first we must mourn the loss of Salty Spitoon to roster hijack rules, and we must again mourn Trippa’s sanity as he has lost to Mustardoverlord again. Some say that still now, from countries away you can hear him proclaim, “I didn’t lose, I played great what are you talking about”. He thought he escaped the stages of grief, but he is spinning his wheels in denial. The other major game played this past week was Snailed It vs. Dog1 where Dog1 managed to inch out the victory with the smallest of margins.

Coming up this week is Sunshine, one of the most “polarizing” maps in the rotation. There seem to be few people who feel indifferent to the map, the majority fall under a camp of blind hate to a map that is honestly one of the better in the rotation. This and probably next week’s writeup will be the most disappointing of the season (despite me saying that last week). I am going to try out something different and make individual articles for important games that happen in the next week and this past week. Give me about two weeks to figure out how I want that to function (and to finish mid-terms and 4 papers). Let’s a go.

Week 3 Top 16 Rankings

by whymeo

It was certainly an interesting week (and a half) of matches with a lot of unexpected results and teams that I thought outside of the top 16 proving me wrong. For this week, I’ve decided to go over a lot more STVs than I previously had (previously the number was 0 actually) and as a result these rankings are coming out at the very last minute. Sorry about that, I’ll be trying to get them out on Sunday or at least earlier on Monday in the future! Anyway, onto the rankings:

UGC Platinum HL Season 18 Week 4

Intro

Viaduct is finished, and another week of shuffling is over. We bid farewell to Route From Smokin Trees, the first (and hopefully last) team to bow out of the season. We move onto CP_Steel, one of the most controversial maps in the game. Some hate it, others adore it, but it’s here to stay for now. The first top level game has finally taken place, with more to come in the following weeks.

by VoxDei and whymeo

We are officially past the halfway point of this season of UGC with Week 4 finished. There were actually a fair amount of close games.
